Hickory County CARES (HCCARES) is a nonprofit corporation committed to improving quality of life for chronically hungry residents in Hickory County, Missouri. This includes help with nutrition and personal hygiene. HCCARES is organized under the laws of the State of Missouri and is tax exempt pursuant to IRC section 501(c)(3).
We have no paid staff. We have 100 passion-filled volunteers.
People coming to us for food regularly ask for hygiene products and we too often have to tell them we have none.
We wish to begin giving a supply of bandages, shampoo, soaps, antibiotic ointment, paper goods, toothbrush, and toothpaste to our patrons. We ask you to make hygiene products available to us at reduced cost. We need 1,500 to 2,000 of each item.
It has often been remarked that we are one of the truly wonderful success stories in Hickory County for getting the people and the funding necessary to help the many poor people in this, the 4th poorest county in Missouri.
The Hickory County Clerk provided the following statistics for the ranking of Counties in Missouri from their ranking database: - Hickory County ranks 110th out of the 115 counties in Missouri in Quality of Life - We rank 111th out of the 115 counties for Social and Economic Factors - 42% of our children live in poverty - In terms of Child Abuse and Neglect, we rank 101st - And, finally, Hickory County has the highest proportion of its citizens over the age of 65 than any other county in Missouri
This is a county that must rely on others to help us meet the many needs that exist here.
