PURCHASE SPECIFICATION
Copper Rod

1. Scope:
1.1 This Specification covers the requirements of Copper rods for electrical purposes.
1.2 The material shall conform to IS : 613 ?C 1984
1.3 The rods will be bright and clean. It shall be free blisters, silver, scale, cracks and other defects.
1.4 The rolled copper rods shall be generally of the following sizes:-
2. PROPERTIES:
2.1 Mechanical Properties:
2.1.1 Tensile Strength: - The ultimate tensile strength determined as per Clause

3.1.1 shall be between 21 kg/mm² on rods, and as per IS 8130 ?C 1984
requirements on drawn annealed wire.

2.1.2 Elongation at Break:- The elongation at break determined as per Clause
3.1.1shall be minimum 45% on rods and as per IS _ 8130 ?C 1984 requirements on drawn annealed wire.

2.1.3 Density:- At a temperature of 20ºC the density of standard annealed copper shall be 8.89 g/cm3
2.1.4 Coefficient of Linear Expansion:- At a temperature of 20ºC, the coefficient of linear expansion of standard annealed Copper is 0.000017 per degree Centigrade.
2.2 Chemical Properties:
2.2.1 Chemical Composition:- The Chemical composition of Copper rods when
analyzed as per IS : 440 ?C 1964 shall be ETP Grade as per IS : 191 ?C 1980
and shall have the following composition:
Copper ( Any silver present to be counted as Copper) : 99.9 ( Min)
Bismuth :0.001% (Max)
Lead : 0.005% ( Max)
